Cat Tien National Park has been recognized by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as the 72nd protected area in the world to achieve the Green List title. This is the first national park and the second protected area in Viet Nam (after Van Long Wetland Nature Reserve recognized in 2021) to achieve this prestigious title.

Spreading across 3 provinces of Dong Nai, Lam Dong and Binh Phuoc with an area of ​​71,187.9 hectares, surrounded by more than 80km of Dong Nai River, Cat Tien National Park is highly appreciated for its biodiversity potential.

The park is home to thousands of rare and high-level animals and plants, nearly 100 species of animals, 94 species of reptiles, 903 insects, hundreds of species of birds and hundreds of species of precious wood. Many rare wild animals in the Red Book, such as elephants, langurs, gaurs, pangolins, lorises, yellow-cheeked gibbons, deer, weasels…

Exploring Cat Tien National Park, visitors can join a hiking tour through the forest to see large animals from afar, such as elephants, gaurs... Or, visitors can join a night tour on open-top trucks moving to the grasslands to discover rare wild animals that go hunting at night, such as deer, wild deer, wild cats, civets…

During the jungle trekking trips, visitors can easily encounter and admire rare primates such as black-shanked douc langurs, brown-shanked douc langurs, and yellow-cheeked gibbons; and watch rare birds, such as hornbills and white-necked cranes on the tops of hundreds of years-old trees.

The walking tour through the old forest to explore the wonders of nature in the old forest is also a journey that leaves many impressions for visitors. They could admire wild freshwater crocodiles and at many times, visitors can also admire the herd of gaurs with dozens of individuals grazing from afar. 

With the available biodiversity preserved and developed, every year, Cat Tien National Park welcomes nearly 70,000 domestic and international visitors.

The park has undertaken restoration projects to monitor biodiversity, restore habitats and conserve species.

Environmental education programs and initiatives are also implemented to raise awareness of the importance of protecting natural resources. At the same time, local community members are also involved in conservation activities, providing them opportunities to develop sustainable livelihoods.

Furthermore, Cat Tien National Park has strengthened its management activities by enhancing its monitoring and enforcement capabilities, applying science and technology in wildlife patrolling and monitoring. The Park’s staff are regularly trained to enhance their professional capacity to effectively manage and protect the area.

Conservation and development of ecotourism

The Green List title recognized by IUCN is valid for 5 years. Therefore, to continue to maintain the title, Cat Tien National Park needs to maintain effective forest protection management and biodiversity restoration through planning, updating and supplementing documents, and complying with the conditions and recommendations of IUCN.

At the same time, it is necessary to maintain natural, cultural values ​​and ecosystem services. Maintaining achievements in governance, conservation and benefits for the community. Increasing forest cover, the area and quality of forest ecosystems, wetland ecosystems, grasslands. Preventing the spread of invasive alien species as well as increasing the number of herds and individuals of important species.

At the same time, developing ecotourism is one of the important policies in the sustainable development strategy of Cat Tien National Park. Ecotourism helps develop the buffer zone economy, forming areas to serve tourists in the buffer zone, thereby bringing enormous benefits.
